CORONAVIRUS

The position regarding the Coronavirus is changing almost hourly. The Prime Minister today (16th March 2020) warned that the virus was now in a phase of rapid spread across the UK.

The following new advice has been issued:

Everyone should avoid contact that is not absolutely necessary - with restaurants, bars and cinemas and travel off limits, and an end to large gatherings.

Where possible, people should now work from home and avoid all non-essential contact with others while coronavirus is circulating.

This advice is really important for people over 70; for people who have an underlying medical condition (those who would normally receive a free flu jab) and for pregnant women.

Over 70s and those with chronic illness are required to self-isolate for three months, even if symptoms are not present.

Entire households should self-isolate for two weeks if one person has been showing symptoms, and older people should prepare to stay away from risks for months to come.

The advice is that larger gatherings should not go ahead – we want to make sure all our public and emergency services are responding to the outbreak.

It has been agreed that the meeting scheduled to take place on Wednesday 18th March be postponed. Please visit the website for further updates on future Council meetings.
